This past week the McLaughlin Group on PBS discussed the conflict between Georgia and Russia. Most telling was how each of the commentators clearly noted the situation was started by Georgia, not Russia. Mainstream media broadcasts have been regularly stating just the opposite. The one commentator not following this thinking was Monica Crowley, of who Don Imus once said, "do you have an I.V. drip steadily pumping that neocon Kool-Aid into you? You sound like a crazy person."
Eleanor Clift of Newsweek I think says it best when she notes that Russia was ready (perhaps overly ready) and eager to respond to the provocation, but that the provocation clearly came from Georgia. She also mentions the Bush Administration clearly overreacted and was out of line in their response. Pat Buchanan is direct and pointed as always, Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) and Mikhail Gorbachev confirm Georgia's responsibility in starting the conflict, and Monica Crowley talks for three minutes straight playing the role of fearmonger.
