Education system in jeopardy due to economics? Parents, here's your sign

Should we be concerned that our nations education system is in jeopardy simply due to weakening economic conditions? School districts around the country are turning to a 4-day school week, striving to cut costs and saving thousands of dollars. As parents, this should be a sign that we should not be relying blindly on educators for our children's intellectual paths.

Our nations children attend less school than many cultures around the world. Many of us are truly aware of the demise of our own "intellect". I'm sure we've all had a good laugh watching street interviews of common folk unable to put Iraq on a map. So, as this trend of shortening the school week continues, and if you find your neighborhood elementary closed on Fridays, don't panic.

Take action and responsibility in your child's education. Utilize your own life expriences and intellectual adventures, share and teach outside the classroom. Think about it...does your child spend more time with his/her teacher each day than you do? Who is really responsible for the intellectual growth of our nations future? We need not fear the seemingly drastic measures our schools are forced to implement.

Re: Education system in jeopardy due to economics?

Also, you know what sad about cut backs? They usually never get put back even when the times are better. This is really scary! I know watching the news last night here in Austin the city is $25 million short. As a result, they are closing the library one day more a week now. :(

Re: Education system in jeopardy due to economics? Parents, here

Yes, I agree totally. Too many parents believe that the schools will teach their children everything! No, teach them some good morals and values, and supplement the education they may not be getting in school. In this new generation of instant gratification, school has become nothing more than a fashion show and a "meat market"! It's a shame.
PS If they were teaching kids like this(below), maybe 4 days of school wouldn't be so bad, huh?
